What are the potential negative impacts of salt to your tricycle for adults?

Road salt usually consists of sodium chloride, but calcium and magnesium chloride are also often used. These substances are hygroscopic, which means that they actively attract and bind moisture and thus, can cause damage to your tricycle components. That does not mean you have to leave your pfautec tricycle parked safely in winter at all times for protective measures. To keep your tricycle in the best condition in winter, it is important to clean your tricycle after every ride.

Cleaning prevents road salt from getting stuck in the moving parts as well as small gaps and cracks. It is similar to taking off wet and dirty shoes at the front door. The dirt has no chance of penetrating the house and spreading. This will save you time and money! Although it may seem annoying at first to clean the vehicle after every journey, it minimises the mixture of salt and dirt from settling on your tricycle and result in rusting. Whether it is dust on the road or road salt in winter: Dirt builds up on the bike chain over time and should be removed regularly. If the chain is only oiled, the dirt moves further and further into the links and destroys them. The wear on the chain is much greater. 

What is the best way to maintain a bicycle chain?

Scrub the chain regularly with a stiff-bristled brush. Clean the chain a second time with a clean cloth and fresh water. As always, it is advisable to dry the chain thoroughly with a cotton cloth at the end and apply a high-quality chain oil to each chain link. We would also recommend that you carry out a quick tricycle check-up regularly, regardless of the weather. Important: If you find any signs of corrosion, damage or wear, or if you have any doubts, it is better to take your pfautec tricycle to a pfautec authorized dealer for an inspection.
